- S: A couple of scenes that are borderline nonsense distract from the film; in particular, the Genovese court scenes and a car scene both feel ridiculous.
- C: The film is a visual train wreck. Awkward framing, very distracting fade-to-black scene transitions, terrible facial prosethics, and some lackluster musical choices and voice-over
seriously detract from the experience of watching the film. The worst part of all is the De Niro double cast doesn't really work, because, in trying to avoid masking issues, the
choreography of the scenes where his characters speak to each other is awkward and breaks the immersion.
- E: So much of the story is told over narration that the film feels more like an audiobook. There's so little to look at and the scenes are so unimportant it almost feels
like you could watch this with your eyes closed and not miss much.
- N: The structure of the story is by far its greatest downfall. The shooting at the beginning becomes so unimportant throughout the remainder of the film, when
it was undubitably a major part of the Costello-Genovese relationship. Nearly all of the major points of the story are communicated over narration, which makes the
shown scenes pointless or just derivative of other big mob movies.
- T: The film received no bonus points.
Very disappointing watch. This film is a glaring example of the importance of good writing.
