- Sensibility: Collin's arc of submission can be hard to understand at times, and his age and relationship with his parents makes his choices difficult to believe at times.
- Cinematography: Costuming is unique and helps give characters and their transformations definition. Production design is solid and lighting is solid but largely un-remarkable. There are a few bits of editing that
make transitions through time a bit awkward or more confusing than they should have been.
- Energy: The extreme nature of the relationship can make some scenes hard to watch, but overall the story progesses in a way that keeps things interesting.
- Narrative: A story about a kind of relationship that is rare and unexplored to this extent cinematically. The story is unrelenting in it's punishment of Collin to a point of farce and then to a point of grim sadness. The ending is quite unforgiving and is almost haunting.
These kinds of stories are important because they open our minds to new experiences. That being said, this film is challenging for people, like myself, that find little to no common ground with any of the characters in the story
- T-Points: The film received one bonus point for a rather tragic and horrifying look of realization of the end of a relationship.
This film was a tough watch for me. I found myself judging the relationship more from the perspective of Collin's mother, so hearing their conversation did help give me insight into my judgement.
