- Sensibility: The characters are so complex and idiosyncratic that some interactions may seem hard to swallow, but overall the story and characters are thoroughly designed and well communicated.
- Cinematography: Costuming is the obvious highlight of the film. Every outfit it brilliant and sets the tone for each scene before words are even spoken. This brilliance is followed closely by similar efforts in production design. All this is
brought together by absolutely incredible lighting and framing. There are many shots in this film that are unforgettable.
- Energy: The constant tension from Mr. Woodcock's lifestyle and the relationship dynamics give so much food for thought even when there is little dialogue. The subtlety in the performances
gives every scene great life.
- Narrative: Brilliant love story unlike any other. Unforgettable characters wjth excellent dialogue writing make for an incredible film full of elegance and subtlety. The interview style narration however, is a bit of a gimmick story-telling device that I think takes away from the film.
- T-Points: The film received four bonus points: one for some shots from the back of a car, one for a surprise dinner scene, one for a shot of Mr. Woodcock leaning back and forth to look at the door, and one for jaw-dropping, detailed, and beautiful costuming.
This film is so great. Even though it's not my favorite film from PTA, it indubitably stands out as one of his all-time great films.
