- S: The film is painfully sensible, and that is the point. Only thing that feels strange is Llewyn's reaction to the news he receives near the end regarding Jean.
- C: Quite good, but the film sometimes feels too washed out, to the point where it is just a grey blend. Some contrast I think would have emphasized Llewyn's suffering and ego.
- E: Lulls a bit only with some musical bits that feel a bit too long, particularly near the end.
- N: The story is brilliant. There aren't many films that are willing to deprave the audience of any hope to this degree. The film feels sad and bleak and then
sparks a rage and disappointment at Llewyn's hipocrisy and inability/disinclination to solve his problems.
- T: The film received tow bonus points: one for the scene where Llewyn pours out his heart and soul for an important critic only to be brutally shut down, followed by a very bleak walk through a
cold snowy parking lot and one for a unique story that does not give the main character or the audience any relief.
It's a bleak watch, but that's the point. This Coen film is not like any of the others, but it has a very deep, subtle, and serious message. It's a film about dreams, pride,
and giving up unlike any other.
