- S: The kid is a little too stunted; reading a book about planes, really? Other than that, the story is real in a very unfortunate kind of way.
- C: The sets are painfully simple, but it actually plays to the story. Costuming is good and lighting is very bland. The film has a low budget feel in instances, but this allows
the film to play to its strengths.
- E: Incredible performances light this movie up. Outrageously intense watch given the film's simplicity.
- N: The story is so good because it's so simple. In medias res and no conclusion, as most real stories are. Brilliantly written dialogue.
Only weakness is the work event from the cousin. Had some energy/feeling in the moment, but was inconsequential to the film at large.
- T: The film received 4 bonus points: one for an incredible graveside scene, an unbelievable, probably the best I've ever seen, transition from laughter to tears emotional breakdown,
one for an excellent supporting performance from Michele Austin, and one big point for Marianne Jean-Baptiste's incredible, nuanced, jaw-dropping performance.
Every scene has a real feeling to it. The simplicity of the story and production design allow the acting and dialogue to flourish and it does in spades. This film
is a paragon for the impact brilliant acting can have on a movie. The biggest hard truth of this movie is that you don't need a big budget to make a brillaint movie.
