- Sensibility: The film gets away with a lot due to a big ending revelation, but, in hindsight, some of the elements feel far-fetched even amongst the unusal nature of the story.
- Cinematography: Costuming, hair, and makeup are incredible and essential to the story. Production design is also excellent. There are a few shots that are so striking that they give pause.
- Energy: With a slow start, the film drags a bit going to a place that is a bit predictable, but the back half is explosive in a way that makes it all worth the wait.
- Narrative: The premise is so strong and idiosyncratic and the political message is so clear that the film unfortunately suffers from a touch of predictability. The film throws in lots of bizarre events to distract from an
ending that we know is coming, but not all of these additions are good: a sideshow around a cop feels meaningless and distracting.
- T-Points: The film received three bonus points: one for an electrocution, one for a scene with a gait change from a person with an injured leg, and one for a horrifying montage at the end.
Another great film amongst a lot of great films from Yorgos Lanthimos. I think the film had some dark elements, particularly during the captivity, that it could have explored in more depth, but the film
definitely has something strong to say about life, mankind, and the future. This film wasn't as spiritually involved as some of his other films, but the ending has a surprisingly horrifying effect that was thought-provoking and made me introspective.
