- S: Much like the first film, the rules of the afterlife seem very flexible or improbable. Particularly, Beetlejuice's control over the two worlds, his ex-wife's ability to find him,
and the afterlife stewards' abilities to maintain order.
- C: Costuming and set design is well on par with the first. Very creative, but has a couple of moments that feel out of place.
- E: Fun and energetic the whole way through barring some elements regarding Beetlejuice's ex-wife. Great acting from Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, Justin Theroux, and Jenna Ortega
help tremendously.
- N: The first movie struggled in that the main character's of the story were very irrelevant to the plot as a whole while the sidecharacters were of extreme importance. In this movie,
the roles have switched. The whole ex-wife subplot feels completely irrelevant and an unnecessary distraction throughout the whole film.
- T: One bonus point for the excellent voice-over wedding scene.
This movie has all the magic of the first film, but all the problems too and some more to boot. Major parts of the film distract from the focus and style of the film. However,
there were moments where the film seemed a bit self aware in its shortcomings, but not enough to redeem the sideplot nonsense. Monica Belluci's role is so irrelevant to
the story as a whole that it feels like Tim Burton satisfying added it just to satisfy some strange fetish. Not Burton's best film, but also not his worst. Fits decently in line with the first film
and worth a watch if you enjoyed Beetlejuice.
