- S: The end-sequence requires some extreme stretching of disbelief. Particularly, the survival of a little girl, the burning/fighting of a queen, an alien learning to use
an elevator, and superhuman strength against an open airlock.
- C: This film is so incredibly shot that all of its effects hold even relative to today's technology. The set design, lighting, production design,
costuming, and props are all so top notch that I believe the visual aspects of this film are the reason why people love it so much.
- E: Brutal, nail-biting action all the way through.
- N: Conceptually very strong and innovative. A few characters are a bit too one-dimensional and the end-sequence feels a bit unnecessarily dragged out at moments.
- T: The film received three bonus points: one for the first military encounter with the aliens, one for the bullet-counting scene with the sentry guns, and one for the brilliant costuming/movement
of the xenomorphs.
This film is the reason why the Alien franchise is so popular. It's rare that a film can stand the test of time narratively and visually nearly 40 years after its initial release.
