- S: As with most alien films, sensibility struggles. In particular, why the didn't survey the planet from the ship and see the buildings before landing,
the lack of masks/safety gear on this foreign planet, especially as disease would be a major concern, and then the crew splitting up once they meet David feels odd.
- C: This film has some beautiful shots that just sneak up out of nowhere. The alien posturing feels a bit too anthropomorphic and different from
the rest of the alien films. The costuming also feels a bit lackluster.
- E: Great harrowing watch. Only lulls a bit after they meet David and the strange interactions with the flute.
- N: This is where Covenant excels in my opinion, particularly in context with the alien franchise as a whole. This film explains the origins of the
xenomorph while still holding the same action packed punch of the rest of the films. David's character is very
interesting and the twist at the end is excellent.
- T: The film received four bonus points: one for the brilliant sequence around the first infections and the med bay (particularly the emergence of the xenomorph through a spine),
one for the scene in the darkness fighting the aliens in the field,
one for the bath scene which almost reminds me of Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son, and one for the twist with David near the end.
This is my favorite film in the franchise. It just has so much good cinematically and narratively.
